The Lord of the Rings - Trilogy

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, directed by Peter Jackson is a very great movie to watch. I watched the first movie - The fellowship of the ring (2001) in of the cinemas in Singapore followed by the second movie: The Two Towers (2002) on an original DVD at Jodoh - Batam a few years later. As I could not watch the third movie in either a cinema nor the original DVD, I had no choice but to watch the third movie - The Return of the King (2003) on a pirated DVD. All three parts won multiple Academy Awards.

It was then, that I realized the movie was written by J. R. R. Tolkien, a best friend of C. S. Lewis. Tolkien's worldview is implicitly revealed in the story. My favorite place in the story is "Shire" a very peaceful place where humble people live together. And most of all, I am very impressed by the "Shire" soundtrack. The Trilogy is worth watching again and again.

I like the various characters portrayed in the story. Frodo, the ring carrier. His calling is to carry the ring to destruction and no one else can replace him in this role. Frodo did not seek this task, he just want a simple life. The conversation between Frodo and Gandalf below is very inspiring.

Frodo asked Gandalf, "Why did it come to me? Why was I chosen?"
Gandalf answered, "Such question cannot be answered... You may be sure that it was not for any merit that others do not possess: not for power or wisdom or any rate. But you have been chosen, and you must therefore use such strength and heart and wits as you have". (The Fellowship of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien).

Sam was another interesting character. He was the best companion of Frodo during the journey to Mordor. Sam said, "I cannot carry the ring for you, master Frodo, but I can carry you." The role of Sam was very important for without Sam, Frodo wouldn't have succeeded his mission.

Gandalf was like the Messiah for me. His wisdom, his death and resurrection as well as his leadership and impact was strongly depicted in the story. There are still many other characters in the story that we can learn from such as Aragorn, Merry, Pippin, Legolas, Gimli etc. The story sends us a strong message on the paramount of team work in bringing a mission to accomplishment. You may need to plunge into the story in order to learn and be inspired by it. It implicitly contains valuable wisdom for us to dig. Let's grab a copy of the trilogy and enjoy!
