This was my first Christmas drama entitled "Lonely Christmas" starring by Jolies Dicky, Sarah Byuti Cendana, Brenda and Vera. The story began by adopting the idea from the first scene of UP (Disney) with no dialog but only acting accompanied by music. The first scene of the drama portrayed A Wen's narcissistic mom (Seanne) and his busy dad (Ryan). I purposely portrayed his dad's ambiguous relationship with his secretary (Lymei) to keep the audience guessing. A Wen (Jolies Dicky) was not given any opportunity to share his success at school and at martial arts to his parent. Being lonely at home, A Wen was disturbed by a mouse (Simon Hartono) Feeling sad and disappointed for not being able to celebrate Christmas with his parents, A Wen wondered alone on the street.
The second scene portrayed a fierce lady (Rahel Kristy) sternly commanded her three orphans Happy (Sarah), Venny (Vera) and Wennie (Brenda) to sell flowers on the street. The orphans in the orphanage had a very hard life under the freaky and fierce lady, the care giver. Out on the street A Wen sat alone at the corner. An old lady (Ellen) appeared (fascinated all audience). Happy offered flower to her but the lady turned down as she could not afford to buy. Happy gave the old lady a flower risking to be severely punished by the orphanage caregiver.
While A Wen was talking to Happy who shared about the joy of sharing, two gangsters appeared going to harm Happy's two friends. One of the gangster managed to kill Happy while she tried to protect her friends. This angered A Wen, and he fought off the two gangsters (Kevin & Lorenzo). A Wen cried when he found out Happy had passed away. This event changed A Wen's perspective on life. He learnt to share instead of feeling sad and lonely. He shared his kungfu skill to his friends.
This drama received much critics as well as appraisal (but not in Rottentomatoes). Kungfu fighting was incorporated into the drama. We spent a few months practicing the fighting. One of the gangster (Kevin) had to practice being slapped by Happy for numerous times. Lorenzo learnt the action pretty quickly, he was indeed a fast learner and a good actor. The orphanage care giver (Rahel) a very soft voice girl had to practice shouting which was very tough for her. An a little girl (Ellen) had to dress up as an old lady with white hair walking on a stick that invited lots of laughter. The supporting actresses such as Rahel, Tanti and Cindy acted really well in the drama. Thumbs up for them. Besides being the main actor, Dicky was also the choreographer for the drama. I enjoyed writing and directing this drama as so much fun happened during the practice.
